Waking up in the morning, I canât tell what really happened. My dick feels like it fucked someone, but my memories are garbled. I have a hell of a hangover. A six-pack of beer and an entire bottle of whiskey are not good on a thirty-nine-year-old body.
Heading upstairs, I see Liam with his head in his hands, looking just as miserable as I feel.
âYou okay, man?â I ask as I meander to the cabinet where I know he keeps the painkillers.
âHangover. And it was too loud,â Liam moans.
âIt was loud at Nateâs? How many people were there?â I ask.
âNo, man. It was loud here. What the fuck were you and Harper doing down there? We could hear it upstairs. Iâm scarred, O. Scarred,â he says with an exaggerated shudder.
I turn around to stare at him.
âWhat?â I breathe.
Liam looks at me, confused.
âHarper was here?â I ask quietly. âThat wasnât a dream? She was here?â
âHoly shit, O. How drunk were you? Yeah, she was here. She got here at the same time we got home. Thatâs how I know she showed up. You guys were so fucking loud. Did she choose you, then?â he asks with a smile.
âGuess not, considering sheâs not fucking here,â I snarl.
âWhat did she say?â
âIâm really not sure. Something about being unable to make a decision because she was too horny or something like that,â I murmur as I rub my forehead. This fucking Tylenol is taking way too long to take effect. Oh, shit. No wonder I got so fucked up last night. âShit, man, I drank after taking the migraine medicine yesterday. No wonder I thought she wasnât real.â
âShe said something about Instagram?â he comments, and my head pops up.
âWhat did she say about Instagram?â
Fuck. I know what Harper said.
âYou were commenting on her pictures.â
Yep. And I remember what I commented.
âDid you really comment tons of times about how much you love her?â
I groan, sliding my head into my hands on the table next to Liam.
âFuck. Yes. Yes, I did.â
âWell, I can tell youâre embarrassed about it, but obviously, it worked. Harper showed up here, didnât she?â
Oh. She did.
âWhat should I do now?â
âI donât know, man. Maybe lay off Instagram, though. But Iâm sure you can figure out less conspicuous ways to show her you love her.â
Youâre damn straight.
âYouâre absolutely right, Liam. Iâm gonna need your help,â I tell him as a broad smile covers my face. He furrows his brow and shakes his head.
âFuck. Youâre gonna ruin my day, arenât you.â
âYouâre gonna help me win her back, buddy.â
âGreat. Just what I wanted to do on New Yearâs Day.â Liam rolls his eyes, but I see a hint of a smile. My friend is a closet romantic, and I know heâll do anything for love.
